Another tell-tale sign that you are away for the holidays is the fact that your trash is not taken out to the curb when all of your neighbors do. All that wrapping paper piles up, so thieves assume you would have to take your garbage out during the holidays. If you aren’t home, consider asking a neighbor to drag your bin out to the curb.

Put Your Lights on a Timer

A house that is always dark is another thing burglars look for. That’s why it’s important to put some interior lights on a timer. A random timer is even better and will give the appearance that someone is home and moving about the house.

Keep Your Tree & Presents Out of Sight

You might want to put your tree by a large front window and keep it full stocked with gifts leading up to Christmas, but this might not be the safest idea. A tree immediately draws the interest of thieves and if placed in front of a window with easy access, it can actually be easy for a burglar to smash and grab those perfectly wrapped packages.
